Seoul, South Korea 2016.
Across the street from the Japanese Embassy sits a young girl made entirely of bronze. She is a reminder of a horrible past, but more than that she is actively protesting the absence of an apology. War time atrocities of the past linger in diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan and this statue is the epicenter of many discussions. A group of young people monitor the statue 24/7, protecting her from vandals and potential removal. Her name is Sonyeosang.
